"Three Greek Dances" was composed for Konrad Owens and Adam Brennan. The dances are stylized by preserving the flavor of the dances while treating the material in a more developmental and contrapuntal manner."Kalamationos" is the most popular Greek dance and is Peloponnesian in origin. Like its cousin, the Syrtos, the national dance of Greece, it is in 7/8 meter grouped as 3-2-2. The Syrtos is a more dragging dance while the Kalamationos is more bouncy."Zeibekiko" has its origin in the Eastern Aegean Islands. It is in 9/4 meter at a slow tempo with a lot of syncopation. This movement is written in 3/4 for the ease in reading but preserves the phrasing of 9/4 most of the time."Hassapikos" is a butcher's dance in 2/4 time with eight measure phrases. It begins moderately and increases tempo throughout the dance.
