Transcendence

Do you ever get shivers when listening to music? The feeling when music touches our soul, and it lifts us to another dimension. "Transcendence" is meant to capture that emotion, that all of us know and love. The first time I listened to Mahlers 2nd symphony, when the chorus comes in at such a quiet dynamic. I got complete chills all over, as a composer, I naturally had to write a piece based off of that feeling. Using a brass ensemble was an intentional decision, the sheer texture that soley brass instruments produce is mesmorizing to me. I believe that brass instruments have the best ability to have different, yet amazing timbres and sounds at all dynamic ranges. I explore that in this piece, trying to pry as many emotions out of the listener as I can.
