This collection follows a narrative in which the first two poems shine bright light on reality after both a literal and a metaphorical storm, after which that light is amplified and changed into a more mysterious atmosphere by a fog that allows the speaker to feel free to confess his sins. The regular cycles of nature provide the winds that blow away that sin from the speaker, once it is confessed, after which the gentle light of a harvest moon provides the healing softness that allows even Death to whisper as a friend. Purification continues as we are reminded of the innocence of children to look up and stare in awe and wonder at the moon's light, and finally the daily cycle of nature brings night to the town, where the forgiveness of that confessed sin allows its inhabitants to enjoy perfect peace and sleep.

The songs Homecoming and Quilt were commissioned by the West Chester University Poetry Conference (West Chester, Pennsylvania) and premiered by baritone Robert Barefield and pianist Carl Cranmer on June 7, 2003. Entrance was written in July 2003 for inclusion in this set of songs. The song Everyone Sang was premiered by Maris Vipulis and pianist Marc Shapiro on April 16, 1998. The bass edition of this collection was prepared especially for Matt Boehler.

These songs, based upon old Native American texts, were commissioned by soprano Nancy Wait-Kromm. The songs are spiritual in nature and include an invocation for solo flute, prayers, and a love song. I felt the need to include a flute in the accompaniment, although I have made no attempt to use authentic elements of Native American music, as I do not have the knowledge and skill to do do this.
