What Child Is This? is a solid Christmas parade tune that can be learned quickly and sounds good even with limited instrumentation. At just over one minute in length, this holiday favorite contains heavy doubling of parts, music for both three bass drums and four bass drums, and a part 1 and 2 for trombones and baritones. The optional tambourine part for extra players adds energy to the song, but the percussion works well even if the tambourine is not available. A mallet part and electric bass part are included in the case that the song might be performed in situations other than parades, and this arrangement fits well in both the parade environment and on the stage.
