The familiar lyrics from Handel's Opera, Semele, have been set in a very sensitive, artistic, and expressive way by Dr. James Cram, Director of Choral Activities at Hardin-Simmons University when the piece was composed. The original was written in the key of A minor and recommended for all-male choral groups. Recently it has been adapted to the key of E minor by Bill Rich and recommended for mixed groups (below). The singers will have difficulty dismissing the sound of this haunting, Romantic/Contemporary piece from their minds once they have learned it.
