Approaching His Throne

(Op. 146)
Greg Jackson - Greg Jackson
Publisher Desc.  There are some darker tonalities that should be conveyed in the timbres the musicians can bring out. The idea is that you are in the dark, but the light begins to break through. Sort of like a plane that is in a thunderstorm but eventually flies through the clouds. The cello soli in measure 28 is the person alone in a new place and the melodic line ascends before the high note which is then layered by another high texture in the violins. Many things are doing in 3's; that is a major number in this piece and many things that I compose. The arpeggiated triplets against fivelets are supposed to represent a harp. This over lies polyrhythms inn the lower voices which could represent earth or the complicated lives humans lead. The violin part that comes in at meas. 51 should be thought of as a metallic sound/color. The theme introduced during the soli sections returns over the harp figure. The piece strives to represent the glory that would be found as you humbly walked towards His throne.
