Publisher Desc.  ATLAS for Concert Band is an original composition by Michael Andrew Newell (ASCAP). This piece was inspired by the book "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. ATLAS is medium-advanced difficulty and scored for standard concert band instrumentation -- the music itself is highly cinematic in feel and texture. In Greek mythology, Atlas was charged to hold up the heavens on his shoulders and served as the axis point in which all celestial bodies could revolve. Paralleled in Rand's book, Atlas served as the "motor of the world" and kept humankind progressing toward the next challenge, which is represented by the persistent use of percussive groove to drive the music forward.
