Banks of Bonnie Doon
Publisher Desc.
The beautiful Scottish tune, "The Banks of Bonnie Doon," is the subject of this sumptuous arrangement for concert band. The rubato opening in 6/4 is shared by the horn and baritone horn as they state the winsome melody, which is then answered by flutes and clarinets. Rich sustained harmonies and supporting counter melodies in the upper woodwinds are added when the melody is repeated once again by cornets. A crisp snare drum solo in the style of Scottish drumming sets the foundation for an exciting transition to a second section in 6/8 time. A tempo change, an effective modulation and the return to 6/4 time guarantees a dramatic ending.
