Grace presents an approach to music education that is combined with language and movement development from the perspective of the child's world. This is advantageous to the teacher who is trying to avoid teaching a specific musical skill, such as reading notes, but would instead like to use music as a means of developing an awareness and an alertness in children. This book is a good resource for creative approaches to music and uses elements of the philosophies of Orff, Kodaly and Laban. The information is easily accessible. Each chapter deals with a different aspect of musical development (i.e. Speech, Movement, Classroom Instruments, etc.). Practical topics such as school programs, public relations, guidelines and first lessons are discussed to improve efficiency. An excellent reference book for the classroom teacher.
