Conceived as a approachable yet satisfying lyrical work, Crossroads explores colors and timbres that serve two main ideas. Programmatically these two ideas form the crossing represented in the work'’s title and take the listener on a journey reflective of the choices made as life progresses. The orchestration favors color and balance over practicality so there are less of the classic instrumental doublings and more opportunities for individual timbres to come forth hopefully providing valuable musicianship training for soloists.  Percussion is employed lightly and for good reason; these lines should strive to lie underneath the harmonic texture and percussionists may learn to identify and support the parts they accompany.
