Dances of the Lake
Publisher Desc.
I composed Dances of the Lake for four flutist friends of mine named Lizzie, Alison, Katie, and Elizabeth, whose initials spell "lake." I used the imagery of lakes, water, and nature as inspiration for each of the three movements, at times placid, rippling, buoyant, foreboding, and tempestuous. Because this is a quartet of four of the same instrument, each of the four parts is able to move freely from melody to accompaniment, or to rise above or fall below the other parts. All four players get the opportunity to play soaring lines and reflective solos, showing off each players' abilities.
