Inspired by the Weather Report classic Birdland, the drummer and bassist set up the groove and it's off to the races with a floating melody that soars over the rhythm section. Written or ad lib solos are indicated for alto saxophone 1 and trumpet 2, while additional features include a B section with a half-time groove for drums and bass, plus lots of full ensemble passages and an optional flute part. This one will be fun to rehearse and play and offers many learning and performance opportunities.
