Drumlins
Publisher Desc.
We lived in County Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland. It was noted for its gentle rolling hills called Drumlins. At the top of some of these hills were stone circles called "Fairy Forts". There was one near our home in Castleblayney. If you climbed the hill where one of these forts was located you could always see others located to the North, South, East, and West. No farmer would ever disturb one of these stone circles. No one could tell me about who, what or when such circles were constructed. There was talk these were defensive positions, but no one knew for sure.
I tried to capture this concept with my little Irish melody for trombones.
All members of the quartet get a chance to play the melody.
