Publisher Desc.  Form Over Function for Chamber Winds and Percussion is a semi-through composed work in a post-minimalist style. It begins with a recurring legato eighth note pattern supporting a staccato eighth-note motive played by the bassoon and pizzicato double bass (cued in the tuba). This opening segment is recapped at the end of the piece nicely bookending the middle section which includes areas of repeating rhythmic patterns as well as rapid ascending sixteenth note figures in the woodwinds. After recapping the opening section, a dramatic non-minimalist tutti statement provides an exciting conclusion to the work.
