Marche Slave
This highly programmatic march was commissioned by the Russian Music Society for a concert intended to aid the Red Cross Society during the Serbo-Turkish War. Incorporating two Serbian folk songs, the march ends with the stately Russian national anthem. The orchestral work was premiered in Moscow in 1876, conducted by Nikolai Rubinstein.
