Modern Solos
Here are 20 compositions that began life as jazz tunes. They were just too rich in musical detail to be reasonable frameworks for improvisation. As piano solos, they are in the proper format. Each piece is designed to show how the accompaniment, bass line and melody can ALL be played by two hands at once. The book is published in alphabetical rather than graded order. A wide range of styles, moods, keys, accompaniment patterns, and time signatures are used, to get an in-depth view of piano music that is not improvised, not Classical, and not New Age, but IS rhythmic, richly textured, and melodically clear. For students, and all players, who wish to get a different perspective on solo pop piano than the typical commercially-available non-classical music solo piano material.
