The State University of New York at Oswego Jazz Ensemble commissioned this work featuring an effective even-eighth note feel to develop the material within. Rhythm section parts are partially notated and brass ranges are relatively moderate for an advanced work with lead trumpet at D6 and trombone at A4. Simply put, this piece contains elements that capture the attention of festival judges including a sophisticated sound, motivic development in all instrumental sections, and solo sections based on modal scales.
