Prominence
A cappella
Publisher Desc.
In astronomy, "prominence" is the luminous looping of gas that
moves out towards the sun's corona. The inspiration
for this piece comes from Brandon Nelson's book "Composition
Toolbox". His composition prompt "Harmony Scramble"
uses 12 numbered chords for wordless women's choir. The conductor decides
the vowel sound, duration, dynamics, the subsequent order of the 12 chords,
and the length of the piece. Each part's range is limited to a tetrachord
(four-note scale) for greater ease of reading should the conductor choose a
chord order spontaneously. In each 12-chord permutation, each pitch of a
given tetrachord is sung only 3 times.
