Scrimshaw Tales
Scrimshaw is the craft of whalebone and ivory carving. Inspired by the composer's stay in Barrow, Alaska, the composition depicts the days of Alaskan fishing and whaling crews. Starting broadly and majestically, it quickly moves to a lively and energetic section that features syncopation and lets you introduce the concept of canonic entrances. A return to the initial thematic material brings the piece to an exciting conclusion. Although challenging in many ways, this work fully rewards all performers and listeners with a thrilling musical journey.
