The Christmas Waltz
Here is one of the classic holiday arrangements as written by the great arranger/trombonist Rob McConnell. This chart was written to feature trumpeter Guido Basso on flugelhorn. The arrangement begins with a light Bossa feel with reeds stating the melody. It then moves to a medium swing style for the second chorus. The first part of the flugelhorn solo section was written as a colla voce in 3/4, with guitar, bass, and drums accompanying the soloist. The chart remains in 3/4 until the end. Saxes double on flute, clarinet, soprano saxophone, and bass clarinet. This would be a great addition to any holiday program! Instrumentation: Reed 1: Soprano Saxophone/Alto Saxophone/Flute; Reed 2: Flute/Alto Saxophone; Reed 3: Clarinet/Tenor Saxophone; Reed 4: Clarinet/Tenor Saxophone; Reed 5: Bass Clarinet/Baritone Saxophone; 5 Trumpets/Flugelhorns; 2 Horns in F; 4 Trombones; Guitar; Piano; Bass; Drums. Ranges: Trumpet 1 to C7, Trumpet 2 to A6, Trombone 1 to G4.
