Chorale for Band is lush, beautiful piece that works on blending, dynamics and, most of all, balance! While the parts for percussion are relatively small, the opportunities for the winds are terrific! The piece begins in the key of F, but modulates to D major. Do not let that scare you, though...it is not for long, and the rhythms are simple, so the students can work on the actual notes. Just gorgeous!

Power of the Redstone is dramatic, exciting, and, most of all, it is fun to play! A sure favorite of anyone in your band who enjoys the Minecraft games, now or in the past, they will certainly be able to tell you all about the abilities of Redstone within the game. While I have written the piece in g minor, I have thrown in some diminished 7 chords and added some v chords for extraordinary sounds and novelty that students are sure to latch on to and enjoy. Limited ranges also add to the fun.

Power of the Redstone

Based upon the heroic men and women of the armed forces, this piece tells the story of "Operation Magic Carpet," an effort to bring home soldiers and citizens back to the United States after WW2. Your students will work on all sorts of things: syncopations, triplets (eighth note and quarter note), eight and two sixteenth (or two sixteenth and an eighth) combinations and more! Another great piece from Amy Webb, each band student gets an interesting part and something awesome to contribute to the sound!

The Quest

Punta del Este is a tango with a pseudo-Calypso-Pop beat thrown in, just  to spice things up! The piece is named for an actual tourist destination in  Uruguay. The beautiful area, which technically means East Point has many  interesting museums, and an intriguing sculpture called La Mano de Punta del  Este, which is quite literally a hand reaching out of the sand. Your students  will love it.

A piece  based upon the ups and downs of playing online and PC video games. In video gaming-speak, an achievement (also sometimes known as a trophy, badge, award, stamp, medal or challenge) is a meta-goal defined outside of a game's parameters. I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord

Mr. Larry Hall was a man whose kindness knew no bounds. An instrument repairman, he made a living serving many schools in northern Maine. When the composer was an elementary student, Larry saved the day by repairing his broken clarinet reed before band class, charging only a quarter, since that is all the student had. This grade 2.5 piece is dedicated to the memory of Larry and all the kids he helped in northern Maine and the entire state. The trumpet solo early in the piece is a special tribute, as Larry was a first class trumpet player.

Love Lives On

Celebrate the famous Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an with this bold, intense work for concert band by Amy Webb.  Created during the reign of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, these warriors are a form of funerary art buried with the emperor with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife. Pulsing rhythms, a gorgeous piccolo solo and an "earworm" melody will help your students sound bigger than they really are, just like the famous warriors!

Awaken!

Alto this World features the percussion section and also, the alto saxes. Written in a swing style, this piece works on articulation (namely tenuto, staccato, slurs and tonguing) and also playing eighth notes in the above-mentioned swing style). Because the snare part is written for the rim, it feels as if perhaps a tap dancer is accompanying your band in a fun, not-too hard, but not too easy rhythm that students will want to play every day.

Alto this World

A celebration of one of the world's most "meme-able" pets, the loveable cat! Your star trombone player is going to have a field day playing the part of the annoying feline patrolling the area just outside the sleeper's bedroom window in this fun piece by Amy Webb! Articulations, chromatics and enharmonics are stressed, as well as swing-style music. Try not to laugh as the sounds of glissandos and duck calls permeate the room.

Those Crazy Cats!

Enjoy a musical rendition of the battle between Chronos, the God of Time and Zeus, his son. In Greek mythology, Chronos was considered to be the god of time. 
This piece tries to show, musically, the passage of time, using eighth note rhythms, the ticking of a clock in the woodblock, and an overall intensity sure to bring out the best in your students.

“Let’s Get Quackin,” is a piece that challenges beginners on all fronts in a fun way, with the occasional duck call coming from the percussion section.

There are no accidentals and most instruments use only the first six notes of the scale, with a couple going to the low 7th. Whole, dotted half, quarter and eighth notes rule the day for all instrumentalists. Simple dynamics (forte, mezzo piano and fortissimo) are utilized as are simple staccato and slurring passages. With a catchy rhythm and memorable playing lines, students will get right this piece away and sound great.
