Battle of Leyte Gulf
Publisher Desc.
The Battle of Leyte Gulf is considered to have been the largest naval
battle of World War II, and was one of the largest naval battles in
history. In 1944, from October 23rd to
October 26th, over 200,000 naval personnel from America, Australia, and the
Imperial Japanese Navy waged war in the waters near the Philippine islands of
Leyte, Samar and Luzon. Some have considered this battle to be an end of an
era of modern naval warfare, and the one of, if not the last naval battles
between battleships in history.
This composition for wind ensemble begins with an aural representation of
the various engagements, while the ending is written in tribute of all of the
losses suffered, and of the enduring spirit that remains after the Battle of
Leyte Gulf.
