Bad Ol' Blues
Sometimes "the blues" can be a very good thing! Mike Carubia's Bad Ol' Blues is simply one of those charts that's down 'n dirty and makes the players and audiences happy by getting into the spirit. The chart begins with a slow, bluesy, unison sax melody leading to a full sax soli restatement of the main theme. A change to double time leads to a tenor sax solo followed by a bass solo over accessible blues changes, or the provided suggested solos. A soft ensemble chorus is followed by one and a half choruses in classic shout style before the full ensemble takes it home. An optional flute part is included and the written ranges are: Trumpet 1 to B-flat; Trombone to G-flat; Alto Sax to C.
