Concerto Op. 77
Written for two guitars and orchestra. Born 1938 in Trois-Rivierres (Quebec), Jacques Hetu is one of the most performed Canadian composers, both within Canada and abroad. He gives priority to lyricism, poetry, emotion, and to coherent discourse; he is also sensitive to the various aspects of sonority and to the structural rigor of contemporary writing. Within traditional forms, he arranges elements in a cyclical manner based on the affirmative force of the thematic material, rigorous writing and the requirement for unity. Currently, Hetu is preoccupied with simplifying his language by broadening his framework and also with developing ever more lyrical expression. The elements of Hetu's style can best be defined as neo-classical forms and neo-romantic expression in a musical language of 20th century techniques. Duration: ca. 15'. Parts for hire. Score (spiral-bound, oversize), 93 p.
