Sextet No. 6
Louis-Francois Dauprat was a horn player, teacher, and composer during the Classical era in France. He began studying the horn in 1794 at the Institut National de Musique. In 1797, in an early Conservatoire class, he was awarded the first-ever premier prix for the horn. He became solo horn at the Paris Opera in 1817 and held this position until 1831, when he retired after a dispute with the management.
Dauprat's Sextets, written for his students to practice reading and playing in various keys, were originally for six horns in several different keys: the highest and lowest parts were usually designated for Horn in C ("Ut"). This arrangement is for 2 Bb trumpets, F horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Alternate/Optional parts are available for C trumpets, Eb horn, trombone, and euphonium in treble clef and Eb tuba in treble clef. Advanced brass players will find this single-movement work suitable for festivals, concerts, recitals, and other special occasions. Or it can be combined with another of the Dauprat Sextets for a longer work; e.g. Sextet No.3 in E minor or Sextet No.5 in Bb.
