Beginning with a bright opening fanfare, this appealing work is well-suited for developing concert bands and should provide excellent opportunities for studies in general musicianship, intonation and rhythmic precision.  A lyric trumpet solo, a driving percussion interlude in 5/4 and a powerful ending all add special touches to this contest overture.
